Many wine lovers and wine buyers are looking to Portugal for world-class quality and deliciously different wines. What’s exciting is not just the wide range of flavours. Most Portuguese wines taste refreshingly different from wines made anywhere else. Why? Because Portugal has its own unique grape varieties, and they taste as different from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc. Of course, the famous French grapes are grown in Portugal too, and can make very good wines but Portugal’s scores of native varieties give Portuguese wines excitement and personalities you will find nowhere else on earth.

This unique wine and food tasting will match 4 wines with 4 different meats, exploring the wonderful tastes one can achieve through excellent wine and food pairing. Each wine will be hand selected by Charles Metcalfe, whose in-depth study of the wine and food of Portugal will make this tasting lecture, one not to be missed.

Charles Metcalfe is one of the best-known, most spontaneous and amusing wine critics in Britain. He is co-chairman of the International Wine Challenge, the world’s biggest wine competition, held annually in London, and was one of the founders of Wine International magazine.

Charles’ book, ‘The Wines of Spain & Portugal’ won the 1989 Glenfiddich Drinks Book of the Year Award. He is currently writing a book to follow up to his successful ‘The Wine and Food Lover’s Guide to Portugal’. Charles talks regularly about wine to public and private audiences.
