To many Burgundy is regarded as one of the most important wine producing regions in the world.

Burgundy has a higher number of appellations d'origine contrôlée (AOCs) than any other French region, and is often seen as the most terroir-conscious of the French wine regions. The various Burgundy AOCs are classified from carefully delineated Grand Cru vineyards down to more non-specific regional appellations. The practice of delineating vineyards by their terroir in Burgundy go back to Medieval times, when various monasteries played a key role in developing the Burgundy wine industry.

All these factors, plus the work in the vineyards throughout the year and the care and attention in the cellar, mean that each vineyard has its own characteristics and each wine within each vineyard can have its own individual taste and aromas.

Burgundy then offers endless scope for finding the perfect wine for any occasion – and for anyone, no matter how extensive their wine knowledge.

Discover the Origin is a campaign to educate and inspire people about the PDO, AOC or DOC status, which gives all products under this banner, a guaranteed seal of quality and provenance.

To lead you through this voyage of discovery is one of the most approachable and engaging wine journalists in the UK, Tim Atkin.

Tim Atkin MW is one of Britain’s leading wine writers and an internationally recognised expert on the subject. He is the wine correspondent of The Observer, where he appears every Sunday in OM , and Wine Editor at Large of OLN. He also writes for Wine & Spirit, Woman and Home, The World of Fine Wine, The Economist’s Intelligent Life, Country House and Observer Food Monthly. He appears regularly as a presenter on BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen.

During the course of this lecture you will taste 6 wines, that Tim has personally selected as wines of character and individuality.

For those lovers of classic French styles, this is not one to be missed.
